UNO SPENDS ONLY SHORT TIME ON BEACH TODAY - BOTH BARRED OWLS FOUND IN GREENBELT - NEW HARBOR SEAL HAULS OUT ON ALKI ROCK

It was somewhat of an unusual day....like the sun came out, but also Uno spent only a short time on the beach...afraid of the sun?  A new Harbor Seal showed up on a rock just south of the boat ramp at Alki only to be washed off by the rising tide.  Both Barred Owls were found in the greenbelt today...first time I've seem both.  They were in fir trees about 50' apart.  At 2:15pm they began calling...very cool.  For those of you wanting lots more information on Puget Sound life you might check out www.eopugetsound.org   This is the website for Encyclopedia of Puget Sound and is packed with great information... you can become an instant expert.  😈

UNO SPEND LONGEST DAY ON BEACH, KINGFISHER BECOMES SEAL SITTER, GULLS DEMOLISH KELP CRABS, OWL REMAINS IN GREENBELT MERGANSER WORKS HARD TO REMAIN ELEGANT

It was a long day for Seal Sitters as Uno spent over 9 hours on the beach at cove 3.  Uno also may have some nasal congestion which explains the long stay on the beach.  A female Kingfisher stopped by to sit for a while.  Jack Block was host to 6 seals and Gulls polished off Kelp Crabs at cove 3.  The Barred Owl remained in the greenbelt on its favorite perch.  Clouds, wind and cool temps kept Seal Sitters looking for hand warmers.

SEAL FOLLIES AT JACK BLOCK PARK AND NEW SEAL "PEACHY" AT CORMORANT PARK

Monday 2-5-18 was entertaining at Jack Block park with 3 Harbor Seals trying to all get on the same beam on the dock.  While there is plenty of room on the dock for a dozen or more seals these three were determined to use the same spot.  This resulted in on and off musical dock game for my entertainment.  A new seal showed up at Cormorant Cove on the west shore of Alki and got named "Peachy" Of course Uno was back at Cove 3 but Dos failed to put in an appearance.  Friend "Jack" the male hummingbird was hanging around at Jack Block also.

"Jack"

Uno drool likely caused by strong smell of fish and chips coming from Marination next door....Pictures of Seal Sitters drooling omitted here as no release could be attained.

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY AND THE SEALS ARE NOT IMPRESSED....

Uno back at Cove 3...day 19 I believe.  Uno was joined by a new pup now named Dos later in the afternoon...at which time Uno gave a rock climbing demonstration to keep our attention from wandering to Dos....what a ham.  Six seals at Jack Block, 3 on the dock and 3 on the restricted beach.  A small pup was being inspected by gulls.  All six appeared healthy and because they were out of harms way required no Seal Sitting.  A male Kingfisher demonstrated fishing prowess while 3 seals showed there level of excitement over the Superbowl.  One strange long-eared seal impostor in Jack Block uplands.

Another day for drizzle and rain at Alki.....but things are due to dry out some next week....ya right.  But cormorant made the day at Alki...playing with food.  Lots of seals at Jack Block Park..happily none needed sitting as all were out of harms way (no human access).  Anna's hummingbird been showing up at Jack Block and there were 3 doing chase flight yesterday.  Uno back on beach today..so off to do a little sitting.
